About Hotel Anthracite

Hotel Anthracite is a modern boutique hotel located on Main Street in Carbondale, PA. Known as the Pioneer City, Carbondale is the oldest city in Lackawanna County and the fourth oldest in the state.

Through its name and much of its décor, the hotel pays tribute to the area’s heritage and industrial past. Carbondale was the site of the first deep vein Anthracite coal mine in the United States and the earliest railroad operations in America happened near here.

Historic photos, postcards and memorabilia on loan from the Carbondale Historical Society are on display throughout the hotel.

The focal point of the lobby is a large Anthracite coal sculpture created by artist Jeff George.

The hotel’s restaurant, Kōl Steakhouse, features traditional and innovative takes on classic steakhouse fare. Dinner is served Wednesday through Sunday.

A landscaped outdoor courtyard with a fountain offers seasonal outdoor dining and cocktail reception space.

There are 61 guest rooms including two queen standard rooms, two queen deluxe rooms, two queen suites, king standard room, king deluxe room and king suite.

Amenities include Rerum Natura all-natural spa quality products, 32” flat screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, fitness center, coffee and drink service and small room sized refrigerator, in-room safe, covered parking garage, electric car charging station, complimentary expanded continental breakfast and a complimentary pass to the local YMCA that has an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

Eco initiatives include participation in “Clean the World,” an organization that recycles partially used bathroom amenities and ships them to third world countries to promote better hygiene. Hotel Anthracite also participates in the Green Lodging Program for the Delaware Highlands Conservancy. A $2 donation from each guest supports the conservation efforts of the conservancy.

Gravity Hall is the largest event space in the area, comfortably accommodating up to 350 guests. The elegant ballroom features a fireplace, high ceilings and modern décor.

Hotel Anthracite is perfect for couples, families, business travel, weddings, special events, and corporate meeting and retreats.

Hotel Anthracite is a modern hotel with a strong connection to the Coal Mining heritage of Carbondale. In addition to Coal Mining, the area was the site of Gravity Railroad which saw the first commercial locomotive, The Stourbridge Lion, on its tracks. We have utilized that foundation to bring photography and recreated historical elements to Hotel Anthracite.
